January 2020 – Sales

(Note: As of January 2020, more than one-third of automakers in Canada have switched to quarterly sales reports, and their figures are estimated by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants).

Canadian light vehicle sales started the new year with positive results, up 0.5% to 109,265 units. Passenger car sales continued to struggle, down 17.2% to 22,433 units, while light truck sales continued with a 6.3% increase to 86,832 units in January.

JAMA Canada members’ sales as a group declined 6.1% to 38,817 units. Breakdown of passenger car and light truck sales are not disclosed, but overall results were mixed:  Subaru Canada was the growth leader of the month (+5.7% to 3,322 units), followed by Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (+0.2% to 1,445 units), Toyota Canada (-3.9% to 13,689 units), Nissan Canada (-8.4% to 7,301 units), Mazda Canada
(-9.1% to 3,404 units) and Honda Canada (-10.5% to 9,656 units).
