JAMA Canada APPLAUDS CANADA’S TIMELY RATIFICATION OF THE CPTPP

Once implemented, the Comprehensive and Progressive TPP (CPTPP) promises to expand trade and business opportunities for Canadian exporters while boosting competition domestically

The members and directors of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association of Canada (JAMA Canada) applaud the Minister of International Trade Diversification, the Hon. Jim Carr, and the Government of Canada for their extraordinary efforts in passing Bill C-79, ensuring a timely ratification of the CPTPP.

“For JAMA Canada and our members, CPTPP is simply a matter of fairness which will allow our members to compete on an equal footing with all other importers in the Canadian market,” said David Worts, Executive Director of JAMA Canada. “We are looking forward to the early implementation of the agreement by the end of the year now that six countries have completed ratification.”

“The early implementation of the CPTPP will offer significant first-mover benefits to Canadian exporters through trade diversification, and offers our members, dealers, customers and Japanese investors the assurance of a more competitive market in Canada, as well as a strong endorsement of the multilateral trade system” said Worts.

According to JAMA Canada, open competition will bring greater choice along with innovations in vehicle safety, lower emissions, higher fuel efficiency, alternative power trains (like electric, fuel cell, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles) and eventually the promise of enhanced mobility and reduced congestion through connected and autonomous vehicle technologies.
